Happy Bride

Recently on Sat., Sept. 28th, I worked my biggest wedding to date with a total of 11 people plus the Bride for makeup services! Thank goodness I had my Assistant to help! I did makeup for 7 while my Assistant took care of the other 5.  Needless to say, it was a long day.  And even though the schedule that had already been revised 4 times was thrown out at the last minute when the Bride decided to move some people around, everything actually turned out fabulous! Here’s a pic of the happy Bride & Groom…

ImageWhen I later asked the Bride how her wedding was and if everyone was happy with their makeup, this was her response:

“Everything was amazing!  It was such a great day.  Everyone absolutely loved their makeup and we all got so many compliments on it.  I can’t tell you how many people said my makeup was ‘flawless.’  You were fabulous!  My whole family has already said how excited they are to call you for future events.”

That’s what I want to hear!!! And as if her wonderful email wasn’t enough, she also wrote a fantastic 5-star Yelp review for me (yay!):

“Briana did my makeup for both my engagement photos and my wedding and she was absolutely fantastic!  I cannot say enough wonderful things about her!  Not only is she unbelievably professional (courteous, prompt and extremely organized), but she is also unbelievably talented.  She really listened to what I wanted and made it happen, and she did the same for each of my bridesmaids.  I truly have never had so many people tell me how flawless my makeup looked.  I cannot wait to have Briana do my makeup again for many more events in the future!”

People think I just show up and do makeup, but there’s A LOT more involved with weddings! This Bride booked me nearly a year in advance.  Within that time, I can’t tell you how many emails we sent back and forth about the contract, schedule and details.  So much planning!

However, getting this kind of a response and review make it so worth it!!! I love what I do, but it’s not about me, it’s about my clients and what they want.  Their happiness is the entire purpose of what I do and strive for.  It’s all for them.   But at the same time, it’s definitely nice to be appreciated!

False Lashes for your Wedding – Yes or No?

As a professional Makeup Artist specializing in weddings, I am all about false lashes! I say a definite “Yes”! False lashes are great for special occasions, and what’s a more special occasion than your wedding? Lashes make a big difference by adding definition to the eyes, and they look fabulous in photos! They don’t have to be over the top.  They come in all shapes, sizes, lengths and fullness.  Check out what a difference they make…

“Before” Lashes & “After” with Lashes

Discuss with your makeup artist the look you would like to create, and I’m sure you will be able to figure something out together.  I always suggest doing a Trial run before your actual wedding-day to ensure you get the exact look you want.  It’s a great way to try on different lashes to make sure you get the right ones for your eye shape and makeup style.  Plus, you can do the Trial the same day as your Bridal Shower, Rehearsal Dinner, or Engagement Photos, and that way, you’ll already be done up for the event!

However, if you’re going to try to attempt to do them yourself, Practice, Practice, Practice! Make sure you practice before the big day, and try several different types to see which ones you like best.  Don’t experiment on your wedding-day (it’s stressful enough as it is).  See my blog on applying false lashes for tips and instructions on how to apply them on yourself: How to Apply False Lashes.  You can also watch my video tutorial to see how to apply them: False Eyelashes Tutorial.

And when it comes time to remove them, here are some tips on how to pull them off without pulling out your own eyelashes (this is important…haha!): How to Remove False Eyelashes.

Bridal Makeup & Hair

I have a secret to share with you…

Makeup is my specialty, and Photography is my other passion.  But here’s the secret – I only do Hair because I can.  (I can’t believe I just admitted that!)

I’ve been doing hair for over 8 years now, and ever since I discovered Makeup & Photography, I put Hair on the back-burner because I’m so passionate about Makeup and Photography.  (I know, I know…shame on me!)

But I have decided to change my mindset about Hair! I have decided to look it as another form of art (as Makeup & Photography are forms of art) rather than just something that makes me more marketable as a Makeup Artist.

So last Friday, December 11th, I was booked to do Bridal Makeup & Hair at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes.  Beforehand, the bride and I had discussed how we were going to do her Makeup, and she showed me a photo of how she wanted her hair done (click HERE for the photo) except she wanted to leave her side bangs out.  So with my frame of mind officially changed in regards to hair, I looked at the photo as an artistic challenge, and that’s when I became excited about it!

Here are some photos of the Bride on her wedding day after I did her Makeup & Hair (click on the thumbnail to see the full size image):

Her wedding had a Peacock theme (so fun!), so for her eye makeup, I created a smokey-eye with purple shades and a pop of teal right at the lash-line, which really complemented her hazel eyes!

And the hair turned out perfect! I actually enjoyed doing it! And my client loved it! She said her Makeup and Hair turned out exactly how she had wanted them…Yay! I really love doing Bridal Makeup & Hair!

BTW…I have a wedding coming up Saturday, December 26th in Long Beach for which I’m doing the Makeup, Hair AND Photography for! So exciting! Be on the lookout for the photos in a few weeks!
